More and more I’m seeing various levels of government, in various provinces, states and countries banning ‘violent’ sexual images on the internet. Sadly, that seems to include consensual activity between educated men and women who choose to partake in BDSM activities. There is zero understanding of the difference between consensual and non consensual violence IF there is anything resembling sexual activity involved. It’s fine to beat the crap out of your opponent in sports activities such as wrestling or boxing but don’t you dare get your rocks off while giving or receiving (or watching!) an adult spanking and for sure don’t you dare take or show pictures of the glorious event because you might just end up in jail where the inmates will be all over your ass in a VERY non consensual manner.

S E X is a sin these days. Don’t have fun with it, don’t enjoy it, don’t do it more than once a week at most and make sure you don’t do it on a Sunday. Hide your perversions, don’t tell anybody. The ‘family values’ police will come knocking at your door to cleanse you of your sins (and your computer and your money). The new eleventh commandment is Thou shalt not enjoy sexual freedom. Hail the missionary position!!

Meanwhile, back in the livingroom, the television blares with gunfire, terrified screams, dismemberments, murders, rapes, genocides, child abductions and glorified pedophiles who want to get their picture in the paper and THAT is only on the 6 o’clock news. The stuff that comes on after 9 pm is worse. Yet, you best not have sex instead of watching it, especially kinky sex – you might turn into a murderous pervert.

Ummm excuse me? If all the dominants murder their submissives who will they get to spank? And why would us submissive types even consider involving ourselves CONSENSUALLY if there was so great a potential for us to be hurt? Us subs have a pretty good grapevine. It doesn’t take long to identify the predators. They don’t last too long in the kink culture.

But are predators really the problem here? Is it really violent sex that is at issue or is it that we dare to be different and enjoy ourselves in ways the rest can’t even imagine so we should be punished because THEY don’t understand.

Sigh - it seems to be the way of things these days. Hopefully websites like The Dominant’s View will still be around in 5 years but there are days I have my doubts.

So while we’re still here I best let you know what we have to offer this issue!

We are thrilled to have been able to interview Joseph Bean. If you don’t know who he is, you should find out. Read his interview and get to know one of the very interesting and long time members of the BDSM Leather scene. And once you’re done you might want to have look at the Feature Articles this month. David M (2006 Mr Olympus) gives us an overview of Leather titles and how they came about. The Leather Prof discusses the conflicting feelings of newbies to our culture. Rover applauds a contestant at this year’s Mr World Leather contest (fyi, he didn’t win but hopefully his message will be pushed forward regardless). Galen begins a series of articles on BDSM and Dark Eros. What does that mean? Check it out and see.

Sunny Tawse has popped in to guest host Mistress’s Musings while we seek a permanent replacement for that column. Master Nage talks about way to recognize predators in our culture. Rick Umbaugh talks about sex!

We have a new columnist, David Lawrence, his column Fetish Focus will be all about photography and how you can improve your personal photos and how to get along in the photography business. He invites you to write him with your questions so that he may address them in upcoming issues.

Ciedre tells us about some traps she’s found in being involved in a S/S/s relationship (switch/switch/sub). Shadow shares how she discovered what she thought was ownership and what was REALLY ownership when her Master fought her battle for her.

Billy tells us a little tale about a little incident at the San Diego Gay Pride weekend this summer. Fact or fiction – you decide. KJPS Howe does what he does best, slams some and champions others in With a Twist. Jean Roberta reviews the book Dark Moon Rising: Pagan BDSM and The Ordeal Path
by Raven Kaldera. And I offer up an piece of erotica called The Healing Bath, a romantic piece that shows just how loving D/s can be. Maybe some of the righteous right will read it – maybe? Sigh – na.

Hope the Summer has been good for you all!
Happy Reading
