Take a Technical Writer, add a quest for kink,
and dash humor and you get The Better Built Bondage Book!
The title is a bit of a tongue twister, but the contents are well
written with light sense of humor and whole lot of explanation,
clear diagrams and detail. You will not feel lectured as you read.
In fact, this book feels like you are having a conversation with
the author. He has a casual but knowledgeable style of writing
that makes you comfortable right from the start.
I was a little
hesitant when I was asked to review this book. I’m not a builder, I’m a little crafty but you won’t
see me building my own bondage furniture any time soon. At least
that is what I thought prior to receiving this book.
It’s
written in a way that anybody who wants to make their own toys
will find
a few goodies in there to make. If you are not
talented with power tools, no matter, work with leather or convert
some pervertables. The instructions are there. Looking for plans
for a cross? A bench? A sex sling? This book has them.
Are you a control
freak for remote controls? With this book you’ll
learn how to convert the average battery operated vibe or egg and
turn it into a remote operated gizmo any sub would love. What?
You don’t know a lot about wiring and electricity to put
one together. If you know a little, this book will guide you
through the rest. Seriously, the instructions are there, they
are clear
and they are easy to follow.
The author
outlines everything you need to know to build your own toys
and furniture. He explains the tools, the hardware, and
the supplies. He tells you what to look for, how to work with
various materials and their quirks and kinks. With 1400+ pictures,
countless suggestions for variations, the book provides
background techniques for all the toys, from basic to advanced.
Excepts from
the book:
Techniques - Sanding - Sanding Blocks I - page 122
 |
|
| On flat surfaces, handheld sanding will tend
to produce a poor finish because the uneven pressure leaves
finger-sized grooves in the wood. |
Instead, wrap the sandpaper around a sanding block.
|
Quickies - Percussion Fun - Screw Eye Whip - page 200
|
The Screw Eye Whip uses two screw eyes, a dowel and some
string.
Attach a screw eye to the dowel, then tie a bundle of string
to it using a “Lark’s Head Hitch” on page
96. Use the other screw eye to hang the toy. |
|
| To drive the
screw eyes, see “Screwdriver Techniques” on
page 125. |
Projects
- Braided Flogger II - Diagonal Braid - page 221
| Floggers made
with a diagonally braided handle are arguably the most
impressive looking. Traditionally, they’re
rarely made by amateurs because they require concentration
and the manual dexterity of an octopus with opposable thumbs.
If you lack either (the concentration or the octopus),
the project may be frustratingly hopeless. Not anymore. |
 |
The
Better Built Bondage Book the ultimate BDSM ‘do
it yourself’ book
and should be on anybodies bookcase who intends to make
their own BDSM paraphernalia. The only things missing are the actual
materials (and victims for your creations). However, as the saying
goes – Build it and they will come. (If not one way then
certainly another!)
