Our
logo was a gift to the original owner of Dom's View. The artist
put a lot of thought and consideration into the symbolism he included
in it. Below is his description of how our logo was developed and
what it means.
In creating this logo it was my intention
to render two themes in one image:
1) To diagram an act of dominance in progress
2) To honour the Canadian origin of the website The Dominant's View
To this end, the logo's design combines a stylized maple leaf morphed
into a cameo of a submissive being gagged.
(For those who care about such things, the design was rendered in
Illustrator 8 using a 35 pt calligraphic brush set at 45 degrees
with 13% roundness. The image is a vector diagram and, as such,
is fully scalable -- allowing its size to be manipulated in service
to multiple applications: anything from buttons to backgrounds!)
I chose the calligraphic brush for its simple elegance, flow, style
and dynamism; and to achieve a harmony between the static and active
elements. The calligraphic stroke should also put the viewer in
mind of a strip of leather: a tail of a flogger or a whip: a time
honored symbol of power and judicial authority (Yeah! like I needed
to mention that!!)
The first rendering of the image utilized a rainbow gradient --
to represent pansexual orientation -- set as the background, but
in deference to the KISS principle it was junked in favour of a
more striking (and less busy) red, white & black colour scheme:
Red: to symbolize fire, courage, passion, love, power & nobility
Black: for dignity, style, mystery and its implication
of a certain darkness
White: in balance (yin & yang) to the black: hope, spirituality,
simplicity and purity.
The diagramming of a submissive being gagged is relevant as it
details an act of dominance in progress: the ball is not fully
inserted; the end of the thong is curved as if still in the grasp
of the master's hand paused in the act of fastening the muffler.
To my mind "The Dominant's View" is never a static panorama,
but represents an attitude of continuation: a learning curve without
end; thus "an act of dominance in progress," a circle & the timeless
process of knowledge in search of itself....
Respectfully,
Scepter
